choices: which way to go?
so many paths from which to choose… though
they all may seem enticing, there’s only one that completely nourishes the
Jewish soul…people may find themselves attracted to other faiths and
traditions, especially the Eastern paths, but this is only because they were
never truly
shown the pure light and beauty of the Jewish way…most, if not all, of what
Jews are looking for in these other spiritual traditions exists within
Judaism… unfortunately, practices such as meditation and body movement are not
as “on-the-surface” in Judaism as they may be in these other traditions, but
they do exist…when Jews who are searching and practicing elsewhere “come
home” to the way of Torah, they breath new life into the Jewish people and
their practices, showing them the need to take the deep spiritual wells that
exist within the Jewish tradition and apply them more in everyday life…many
times, those who have been “living” Judaism their entire lives become stuck
in a routine and forget about the spiritual wonder the Jewish path has to
offer…Jews returning to Judaism, as a result, are able to give these life-long
practitioners of Torah the greatest gift in the world: the gift of new eyes…
of course newcomers to Torah certainly have a lot to learn from those who have learned and lived a Torah-lifestyle since the day they were born, they also have tremendous insights and teachings to share…those who have come to Torah as a result of personal spiritual quests have been many places and seen many things…we’ve seen the beauty of other peoples and traditions… we’ve had experiences which have shown us the awesomeness of the Creator…now we must take all we have learned on our journeys and bring them back home, back to the Jewish people and the Jewish way…we need to bring our deep thirst for a spiritual way of life to an ancient tradition that is in its own process of renewal and transformation (while not forgoing its structure and boundaries)… why do you think we Jews have been scattered all over the world?…so that we could see all of the other paths, all of the other traditions, and then realize that, for Jews, Torah is the sweetest path, that Torah is the most fulfilling path…
